Your students will learn about the size of the universe while watching the full-dome mini-movie entitled Sizing Up Space. Afterwards, they will experience a live and somewhat interactive planetarium presentation entitled The Sky Tonight. During this presentation, they will learn about some interesting things to look for in the night sky and they will also learn exactly when and where they should be looking, in order to be successful with their own personal observations of the sky.
To wrap things up, your students will witness a simulation of a special celestial event. Students in Grade 4 will witness a simulated eclipse inside the planetarium and will learn how light and shadows are responsible for eclipses, while students in Grade 5 will witness a a simulation of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) and learn how electricity and magnetism are responsible for these beautiful displays of light that are often seen in the northern sky. If time permits, your students will have an opportunity to hold a rather large, museum quality, iron meteorite in their hands. Campo del Cielo Meteorite
