Travel CosT
The Travel Cost associated with bringing the AstroDome Planetarium to your location is calculated based on the distance from High River, Alberta.
The map below shows the area where the AstroDome typically travels. The area within the thick red line has been subdivided into three zones, which are referred to as Zone A, Zone B (Calgary) and Zone C. There is also a Zone D, which is the rest of Alberta, beyond the thick red line. The travel cost associated with each zone appears below. The Travel Cost includes one set-up and take-down of the AstroDome, at your location. If for some reason you require the AstroDome to be set-up and taken down more than once, there will be a $49 fee applied for each additional occurrence.
Zone A ($89)
This zone includes High River, Okotoks, Nanton, Cayley, De Winton, Blackie, Millarville, Longview, and Diamond Valley, which was formerly known as Black Diamond and Turner Valley.
Zone B ($139)
This zone only includes the City of Calgary. The Ring Road is usually considered to be the boundary of this zone. However, if you're located just beyond the Ring Road and your official address, according to Canada Post, is "Calgary" then you're considered to be in Zone B.
Zone C ($149)
This zone includes Airdrie, Strathmore, Chestermere, Carseland, Langdon, Indus, Cochrane, and Bragg Creek.
Zone D (To Be Determined)
This zone includes all parts of Alberta located beyond the zones mentioned above. The Travel Cost associated with this zone will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Multi-Day Road Trips into Zone D are a great way to save money! Schools in Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Red Deer, and Edmonton should team-up to take advantage of this cost-saving measure.

Administrative Fee
The basic Administrative Fee is $69 per booking, but this fee is based on how much administrative work is associated with your booking. If your school (or more likely your school division) has requirements that result in additional administrative work (more than normal) this will increase the Administrative Fee.
Administrative Fee
NOTES:
¹ If an EPSB school submits payment directly from the school office, then the Administrative Fee will be $69. However, if the invoice is sent to Division Office for payment, the Administrative Fee will be $349. Last Updated: September 3, 2024
The Administrative Fee helps to offset the many costs associated with operating a business, such as bank fees, credit card processing fees, post office box rental fee, annual WCB-Alberta premiums, and liability insurance. It also helps to pay for the many time-consuming behind the scenes tasks that are associated with operating the planetarium, such as responding to inquiries, scheduling bookings, writing quotes and invoices, banking and bookkeeping, completing annual GST returns, and equipment maintenance, upgrades, and repairs.

Goods and Services Tax (GST)
Starting in late 2017, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was added to all AstroDome invoices, as mandated by the Government of Canada. You will find the GST Registration Number clearly printed on your invoice. Many schools receive a GST rebate, upon submitting a GST rebate claim to the Federal Government. Be sure to ask the office administrator at your school for more information regarding the GST.
|
For schools located in Zone A, Zone B, and Zone C, the total cost (under normal circumstances) is the sum of the Admission Fee, the Travel Cost, and the Administrative Fee, less any Discounts that may apply. Also, of course, the GST has to be added on as well.
For most, but not all, schools in Zone D, there is one additional charge in the amount of $195/day that will be added to the overall cost. This charge is applied to cover the cost associated with Accommodation and Meals. If your school is located just a short distance beyond the thick red line (as seen on the map above) you will not be charged for Accommodation and Meals. However, the start time of the planetarium programs may be 30 to 60 minutes after the start of the school day, due to the extra time required to travel the greater distance. If you are planning to pay with a credit card there is an additional charge. The details regarding this Convenience Fee are located below. |
Accommodation and Meals
When the AstroDome Planetarium is taken to locations that are greater than 160 km from High River, an additional charge in the amount of $195/day will almost certainly be added. This charge is used towards the added expenses that are associated with Accommodation and Meals.
However, there is one exception to this rule, which only applies (in some circumstances) to schools that are located between 160 km and 199 km from High River. If your school is located less than 200 km from High River, but more than 160 km, be sure to ask about the exception to the rule because it could save your school some money. |
Convenience Fee
Effective: September 3, 2024
If you choose to pay with a credit card, there will be a 1% charge added. This additional charge will help offset the 2.9% credit card processing fee. Please note that the Federal Government recently made changes to the Excise Tax Act so that they can collect GST on credit card convenience fees. Therefore, if you pay with a credit card, the charge will effectively be 1.05%. |
